Only two educational institutions In Russia are BREEAM standard certified, and it is only the School's building, a genuine example of green construction, that has been certified according to the new BREEAM In-use v.6. The building was designed by the famous architect David Adjaye more than 10 years ago and since then has proved its resource efficiency, something which has been confirmed by the results of the audit.

International Paper has now become a key certification partner in support of sustainable development practices. For many years, the company has been introducing sustainable development principles, and not only within itself: it has been helping its partners take this road as well.

At the second certification stage (Management Performance: Property Management), experts assessed the building’s operational practices, its systems and energy management, the approach to maintenance, environmental management policies at the site, work with tenants, and the tracking and management of water and energy consumption. Investigation of the facade's thermal conductivity, measurements of the premises’ acoustic comfort level, risk analyses for legionellosis and flooding, and studies into the level of biodiversity at the site were also carried out.

In the second stage of certification (Management Performance: Property Management), the building was awarded a certificate with the rating Excellent. It received its highest appraisal in the categories Land Use and Ecology (90 out of 100 points), Water (87.5 out of 100), and Materials (85.71 out of 100).

More than that, for both certification stages (Part 1: Asset Performance and Part 2: Management Performance) the School's Campus received the highest rating out of all Russian buildings that have been certified according to the new BREEAM In-Use v.6 standard.

BREEAM is currently one of the main international sustainable development standards. It was updated and expanded in April 2020 to include building and property management performance. Recently it has also been actively applied to construction and development. Possession of BREEAM certification confirms that a building is environmentally friendly, which in turn helps to increase productivity and reduce utilities and maintenance costs.

Successful BREEAM certification is part of the School's long-term Sustainable Campus project, the active phase of which started in early 2021. The project is being delivered with support from International Paper, part of a strategic partnership with the School.
