Letovo — the School of the Future: Speakers Nights with Vadim Moshkovich

Moscow, November 28, 2016. – On November 24, 2016, the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO held a traditional meeting in the Speakers Nights format with Vadim Moshkovich, a Russian businessman and philanthropist, the founder of the Letovo Private School for gifted children. The meeting was moderated by Andrei Sharonov, President of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO.

SKOLKOVO: Letovo — the School of the Future: Speakers Nights with Vadim Moshkovich

In his speech Vadim Moshkovich told the audience how he had established the educational institution, and explained that its purpose was to create a variety of educational programmes, and to develop gifted children. Mr Moshkovich has ambitious plans — he intends to create an educational environment that will allow school leavers to continue their education in 30 best universities of the world.

During the lively conversation with the students, Vadim Moshkovich shared his vision of an ideal educational system, the principles of selecting children, and his plans for further development of the School. We have chosen the most impressive quotes from Mr Moshkovich's speech about school, business, and life:

  • I am ready to admit that I'm not very smart.
  • People still want bread and circuses. Bread means work; circuses stand for the social, transport, and environmental infrastructure and safety.
  • I have one strength, which is also my drawback: I'm very stubborn.
  • In the best Western schools, knowledge belongs to the school rather than to a teacher. I want to create an educational institution in which the loss of one particular teacher will not affect the general level of students' knowledge.
  • My school is not commercial. I'm not going to make a profit out of it. Moreover, I intend to continue spending money on it.
  • Many people think that I cannot find children who are able to absorb so much information. There are 15 million children in our country, and what I need is just one thousand. I think we can cope with the task.
  • For me, a “boarding school” is bad words.
  • "Infinity plus" is exactly the amount of knowledge that a good teacher should possess.
  • Why am I doing this? I want to build a school that will be able to give thousands of children a start in life. Besides, I can afford it as I have made a lot of money.
  • There is a saying I like, "His mouth is larger than his head". My mouth is not larger than my head—I do what is in my power. I don't need anyone to help me. What I need is not to be interfered with.
  • I have no desire to push children to leave the country; I have a desire to give them an opportunity to make a free choice: to stay in Russia or to go abroad.
  • The existing educational community does not accept the Letovo School. Its members do not believe that my plans can be implemented. For me, "enticing" a child to the school is an individual task.
  • Success is not measured only in money. A measurement is a criterion that each of us defines for oneself.
  • If you want to achieve a particular result, and you have enough desire and patience, 99% of success depends on you, regardless of the coordinate system.
  • The most important thing is to do everything so that you will not feel ashamed of yourself.
  • It all starts with setting a goal. If you have a goal, you will achieve the result.
