Business Case Presented by the SKOLKOVO Business School Won the 2016 EFMD Case Writing Competition

Moscow, May 29, 2017. – The business case “Unilever Production Cluster in Tula: Zero Non-Hazardous Waste to Landfill in Ten Months”, written by Andrey Shapenko, Project Manager at the SKOLKOVO Business School, became a winner in the Sustainable Production Systems category at the 2016 EFMD Case Writing Competition—a prestigious international competition of case studies. The Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO is the first Russian business school ever to have received this award.
The case is dedicated to Unilever's experience in completely eliminating the disposal of non-hazardous waste at the ice cream factory in Tula in line with the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP). The case is based on a discussion of the challenges faced by a manufacturing enterprise in Russia at the stage of introducing sustainable business models. The case study was prepared as part of cooperation between SKOLKOVO and Unilever, specifically for the Business School’s open educational programme “Sustainable Development: Building a Business Model in Russia”.

EFMD is an international association for the accreditation of European business schools and corporate universities. Its main task is to resolve issues related to business education, as well as to provide assistance in developing educational institutions and to set standards for the quality of business education by creating a unified assessment of the educational market throughout Europe. Founded more than 30 years ago, EFMD unites over 900 institutions in 86 countries. The cooperation between the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO and EFMD began in 2009, and in the spring of 2017 the Business School was granted the status of a full member of the Association.
The award received by the SKOLKOVO Business School for the Unilever Production Cluster in Tula business case is the second victory that the School has won in EFMD competitions. In 2016, the SKOLKOVO Business School became the winner of the EFMD Excellence in Practice Awards (EiP), a prestigious international competition for the world's business schools. The case study on the Management of Technological Innovations programme jointly implemented by the SKOLKOVO Business School and Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation received a silver medal in the Organisational Learning and Development category.
