Moscow, June 30, 2011 – Today Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of General Electric, held a lecture at Campus of Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO. He discussed “10 years at the Helm of GE – Challenges of Leadership in the 21st Century” with an audience of participants of executive education programmes, including employees of Transneft, TVEL, and Evraz.
Andrey Volkov, the President of the Moscow School of Management, moderated the discussion.
During his speech, Immelt, who has been the CEO of General Electric for 10 years, touched upon a variety of topics – from leadership in the modern world, to GE’s business strategy and its approach to innovation. Immelt discussed how to continually build and evolve one of the world’s largest companies, maintain growth in a globalized world through uncertain times, and the role of employees in these processes. He also mentioned GE’s plans in the Russian market and presented his own vision on the influence of global economic growth trends: “The world is moving very quickly and I have to insure that the company is prepared. Part of the role is picking the right countries in which to invest and making certain that we bring in the right businesses But the biggest task is to find the talent, people who are ready to move ahead. It is important to find people, who are ready to lead, to take responsibilities,” said Immelt.
At the end of the lecture, there was an interesting and in-depth discussion. The participants asked Immelt several questions regarding innovations in developing markets, problems of the advancement of these innovations in developed markets, and identifying areas for R&D. There were also questions about GE's global initiatives in the field of clean energy, energy efficiency, and healthcare modernization which are encompassed by GE’s two major business initiatives ecomagination and healthymagination.
