The ideas of the Russian artist Kazimir Malevich were the inspiration for the architectural design of the SKOLKOVO Campus. Malevich’s work predated developments in international art by decades. The Campus buildings both emphasize how Russian and world culture infiltrate one another, as well as demonstrate the School’s innovative and, to some extent, futuristic nature. From a bird’s-eye view one can see how the design of the Campus almost completely reproduces Malevich’s painting “Suprematism”.
This layout for the main building was first sketched on a napkin at a Moscow hotel, when the architect David Adjaye met with the School’s founding partners.
