About the MBA

When will the MBA Programme start?
The first cohort for the MBA Programme at the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO started classes in September 2009, the third cohort for the MBA Programme will start on 22 August 2011.
How long is the Programme?
16 months with a three-week break for Christmas and the New Year. The MBA finishes in the middle of December the following year.
What kind of International Accreditation does MBA Programme in SKOLKOVO have?
It is too early for the SKOLKOVO MBA to be accredited. We have designed the programme for market acceptance and our criteria equal or exceed accreditation requirements.
How is the MBA Programme different from the Executive Programme?
The MBA is designed as an experiential learning programme, with focus on emerging fast-moving economies, and eentrepreneurial leadership. The Executive MBA is aimed at the senior executive with at least 7 years of managerial experience, whilst for the fulltime MBA, applicants will need a minimum of 3 years of work experience.
Is the Programme entirely in English?
The entire programme will be taught in English, therefore applicants will need good operational English.
Do you have a distance learning MBA Programme?
No.
Do you have accommodation on Campus for MBA students?
Yes, all MBAs will be offered on-campus accommodation.
What type of accommodation would it be?
Each student will have their own 30 m² (323 ft²) furnished room, with ‘ensuite’ bathroom.
Can I bring my spouse?
The accommodation provided would be large enough for two but we would recommend that you find something a little bigger. We can help you with this.
What kinds of services are provided on campus?
We are building a ‘full-service’ campus with Wi-Fi everywhere, as well as shops, restaurants, sports facilities and a hotel.

What is the target audience for the MBA?
The MBA is aimed at young professionals (aged 25 to 32) with a higher education and with a minimum of 2/3 years of work experience. We look for people with entrepreneurial spirit and leadership potential who either look to start their own business or bring essential business skills to the public sector. Our program participants strive for success and find solutions to difficult situations in the most unpredictable environment. Finally, SKOLKOVO MBA students are people with good leadership skills who can lead others and be lead while working in fast-moving economies, such as Russia, India and China.
What are the characteristics of a typical MBA Programme participant?
The Programme is designed for people who want to increase their knowledge of leading and managing in fast-moving emerging economies and want to succeed in the rapidly developing markets. They should possess the following:
- Entrepreneurial spirit and strong business acumen ;
- Minimum of two- three years of work experience;
- High academic aptitude;
- Excellent analytical and creative abilities;
- Proficiency in English;
- Good networking and communication skills,
- Strong drive for success, open-mindedness and curiosity;
- Willingness to lead and ability to follow.
What undergraduate degree subject should I have?
At SKOLKOVO MBA Programme, we seek candidates with a variety of educational backgrounds and work experiences. We look for candidates with at least 2-3 years of management experience, which demonstrates entrepreneurial qualities, leadership skills and ability to think creatively. With respect to the educational background, we welcome applications from candidates with degrees in arts, languages and philosophy as well as sciences, engineering, mathematics and social sciences, including business and economics.
Do I really need work experience, or will Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO admit graduates straight from university?
We will consider candidates with a university degree and at least 2-3 years of management experience (which means having at least 2 people who report directly to you or creating and managing your own business, either successfully or not.
What kind of careers does MBA in SKOLKOVO prepare you for?
The SKOLKOVO MBA concentrates on developing a unique style of entrepreneurial leadership skills required for the new type of managers who will be in demand in the 21st century. This means that SKOLKOVO is interested in preparing people not only to manage in fast-growing markets but to establish their own business and lead others in both private and public sector.

When will the Admissions process start?
The admissions to the MBA Programme began in September 2009. The third MBA class will begin studies on 22 August 2011.
How many people do you admit and do you have any quotas?
We expect 50 students to be admitted in the 2011 and plan to increase the number of admitted students in the future. While we believe that diversity is important, we ultimately admit individuals and not categories of people. At the same time, we plan to have a very diverse class in terms of gender, ethnicity, nationality, and personal, professional and academic experiences .
What is the minimum TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score required for MBA applicants?
Minimal scores:
- for TOEFL PBT – 547
- for TOEFL CBT – 210
- for TOEFL IBT – 78
We expect the class average to be about 105 on the iBT scale equivalent to 620 on the paper-based test and 260 on the computer-based test. The MBA Programme is taught entirely in English, therefore, a high level of English proficiency is necessary.
Can I send an IELTS score instead of TOEFL?
Yes, you can send an IELTS score instead of the TOEFL score. Please, take into account that minimal score for IELTS – 6.5
I have two years (or more) of work experience but I obtained this while studying for my degree. Will you still consider me?
We would like all applicants to have the necessary work experience completed after receiving their degree.
Can I reapply for the Programme?
Yes, anyone can reapply. However, you should take a look at your last application and check if you have made significant changes in your profile before submitting a new application.
Do you count military service as work experience?
Generally no. However, if you have had a career in the armed forces we will consider that as work experience.

How much is the application fee? And how do I pay?
? 150. This can be paid by credit card during the on-line application process. You can also pay the fee via a bank transfer or at the school in person.
Can I waive the application fee?
No.
Who should I give as my referees?
We would like references from people who know you well. Don't just look for a well-known individual or the CEO of your company. Our preference is for a reference from your current employer (or a colleague if you do not want to use your line manager at this time). The other referee could be from a former employer, a client, or peer. You should only choose someone who taught you at university if you have remained in close contact. Whoever you chose, they must know you in a professional capacity.
How should I submit my paper documents?
Supplemental documents can be delivered personally to Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, or sent via courier or registered mail.
When is the application deadline?
We have three rounds of assessing applications for the MBA programme. You can fill out the application form and take part in the round that is most convenient for your schedule.

How much will the programme cost?
The SKOLKOVO MBA tuition fee is ? 60,000*, which includes tuition for the whole programme, course materials, accommodation on campus and during visits abroad, flights to / from India / China and the United States, and a laptop computer.
* This will be converted at the due time of payment into Rubles at the then current exchange rate as per Bank of Russia.
What else do I need to pay for?
You will need ‘pocket’ money for food, clothing and entertainment.
When do I have to pay?
If you are offered a place on the MBA Programme, you will be given a specific date by which you should respond, and pay a non-refundable Commitment Deposit fee of ?2,000, should you accept the offer.
Students accepted the offers, will also need to pay their non-refundable Reservation Fee of ?3,000 by August 9th, 2011. Both the Commitment Deposit and Reservation Fee will be deducted from the total tuition fee liability.
The remaining tuition fee of ? 55,000 is to be paid in three equal parts:

It is Russian law all payments be made in Rubles and the official Bank of Russia exchange rate on the day of payment will apply.
There will be a discount of 10% for those willing and able, to pay the ?54,000 by August 30th, 2011.
Do you provide scholarships?
Yes, we have a limited number of scholarships for exceptional applicants.

What are the term dates? When will I be studying?
The 16-month programme begins on August 22, 2011 with an Introduction week, which is followed by an academic period running from early September until December. There is a break for Christmas and New Year holidays. This is followed by the Projects Period. The Programme finishes on December 14, 2012.
Do I need a computer?
Yes. The Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO will provide you with lap top and Internet access. We also have a wireless LAN in the School, enabling students to work in and around the Campus.
Do I need to buy books?
We will provide you with comprehensive course materials, which are included in the tuition fee. However, you may want to buy additional books to help you understand the subject.

Can I study Russian in the university parallel to my MBA program?
We will provide access to the Russian language classes if there is enough interest from students. In addition, students can also learn Spanish and Chinese.
Do you guarantee jobs after graduation?
There is no guarantee of a job after an MBA graduation but SKOLKOVO will provide placement advice and invite companies to campus for recruiting activities. Moreover the programme design (project-based learning) provides a great opportunity for you to either find a job or to get financing for your own business project from the SKOLKOVO Venture fund. |
