EDUCATION AT SKOLKOVO: SPECIFIC FEATURES Print

Private business' initiative:  A new type of International business school and research centre focusing on basic trends in the business and economies of tomorrow

Objective: The creation of a top-flight management school that will become a renowned leader in international business education

  • SKOLKOVO’ focus on emerging markets has been established on the fundamental base of the practical knowledge that has been gained by its founders

Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO is a joint project between members of Russian and international business elites who preferred starting from scratch to building on an already existing Russian educational institution. The school was founded by 18 Russian and foreign major companies and individuals, leaders in their sectors: oil and gas, metals, power generation, investment, banking, insurance and the retail trade. The partnership is not limited to financial contributions. The founding companies have over 200 years of consolidated managerial experience on markets in both developed and developing countries (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Finland, India, the United Kingdom and the United States  - more than 10 nations in total). The authors of the project have experience managing major business structures. As well-known leaders and successful entrepreneurs, they are interested in creating a school that will become a leader in business education. They are willing to take part personally in the training process, developing the School's curriculum, delivering lectures, and organizing practical training.

  • Training through practice

Students will mainly be trained through taking part in real projects to be developed by teams of five to seven people. Project results will be assessed by the founders of the Moscow School of Management and third-party experts (politicians, officials and businessmen). The School will use active methods of training, so the educational process will include a variety of training courses, role-playing games, training under the guidance of experts in specific areas, consulting projects, practical training and lectures.

SKOLKOVO: Competence

  • The school's international activities

SKOLKOVO's main advantage in comparison with major Western schools, leaders in business education offering traditional curricula, is its focus on specific and distinguishing features of the Moscow school. The project will expand beyond Russia's borders, with a curriculum that provides for the analysis of business activities in countries with rapidly growing economies such as Russia, India, Brazil, and China (the so called BRIC group). The curricula target not only Russian, but also foreign students who intend to apply their leadership skills in dynamically developing emerging markets. As part of the SKOLKOVO curriculum, students will master business Russian and obtain hands-on experience in doing business in crisis situations. The School's corps of professors and lecturers comprises globally renowned Russian and foreign experts working both on staff and as visiting trainers. SKOLKOVO has everything necessary to become part of the world's business-education system and to enrich it with unique Russian experience.

  • SKOLKOVO cooperates with business schools abroad

SKOLKOVO students may study concurrently at a number of international business schools located in South and North America, South Africa, and East and South-East Asia. They will take part in the joint implementation of international consulting projects or in transnational business management role games and may train in specialised areas or take courses in the cultures and civilisations of different countries.
